    Hope your back is better. IS there any hope on getting a more detailed overview on the pissyellow TW? Looking for the lightest 2p tent - A big dude with a dog and so 2p is only decent way to go + a decade in hammocks makes me claustrophobic in tents. Any suggestions?

    Those hokas are good for wide feet???

    • @BryceNewbold
      @BryceNewbold 2 дня назад

      I think so. My feet are wide (can't wear nikes/ASICS). I don't even order the wide version of hokas and they are fine. They did feel snug at first but I never blister in them.

    I want to tarp tent to sort of half way cowboy camp. But I haven't had time to figure out how to set up the tarp. I guess I'm worried it will blow out of shape at 3 AM when there is a storm or something like that.

    Quick question: From what I can see, your map animation at 4:23 doesn't go to the point where Lion's Head is shown on Google Maps. You appeared to be Northeast of Lion's Head on a trail that's not displayed on AllTrails. Is the animation incorrect, did you go to another overlook, or am I just confused?

    • @BryceNewbold
      @BryceNewbold 7 дней назад

      You are correct. The animation is incorrect. I drew it and edited it based on what it "felt like" and by the time I realized it was way off, it would have taken me hours to fix so i just left it. All trails is correct

    Bryce, I am really falling in love with the Ace Pro. Bringing this instead of a GoPro or a heavy and expensive full frame camera… man. Shock resistant, water resistant, really nice lens for an action camera. And yes(!) a flip screen like in my camera. Pause and cancel is such a great reduction of files I will have to shift through. Love it. Audio seems to be really good too!!! Where did you say you were at again? Katie and I live in Indianapolis. Any where closer than the Smoky’s or Colorado to backpack hike and camp that looks that rugged would be an amazing treat for us.

    I have a huge fear of losing my keys or wallet, so usually buy a zip key pouch and install it into my pack. Or, do what you do, put it in a bag, byry it in the pack, and don't touch it again until the end of the trip. Thanks for the video!

    Looks like a clone of the Sea-to-Summit Ether Light XT (rectangle). Even the insulation diagrams look the same. I had one (Ether Light XT) which was ASTM rated to R3.2. If the Kilos is a clone, then it will have the same design flaws as the Ether Light XT. From my experience with the Ether Light XT, the insulation "film/layer" ends up dropping down to the bottom side of the pad. Not only that, the Ether Light XT (and I suspect the Kilos) sleeps wayyyy colder than the inflated R5.0 rating at an air temp of 32F (OC). Why? the pad has no baffles preventing cold air from advecting from outside your body print. Not only that, but the dimples on each side match up with each other and are uninsulated. Given these, each time you roll around, the cold air will mix with the warm air underneath your body.

    Tarptent makes some awesome shelters that are all carefully thought out. As a tall and wide camper I tried out the double rainbow li and can think of no reason to try anything else. I watch and am in interested in innovations from others but for cost, space, semi/freestanding options, and weight it just can’t be beat. He’s the tent whisperer for sure!

    I came across this video long after it was published. I have done this a few times- too cold or bored. I’ve done a lot of in the teens overnights to figure out how to stay warm. I’ve made the same mistake- put on all my layers and then froze. You sweat in those layers then it makes you cold. It’s better to wear less, and stuff the gaps in your bag with the extra clothes. Also- I drink hot cocoa to warm me from inside, and put hot water in my Nalgene and keep it in a wool sock against my body while I sleep. But- I also learned if you’re not enjoying it, bailing isn’t a failure.

    I have backpacked up there for over 30 years. The trip that I remember the most was the last night of a trip, camped on Raven Ridge. I weathered one of the most spectacular and frightening thunderstorms in my life. It was also one of the most beautiful experiences of nature. I have always prepared for freezing temps, even in Summer. I have woke up to frost in mid-August a few times. I have experienced temps in upper 80's this year. I love that place!

I have much more than 300g of fat on my stomach to lose, until i'm shredded, i'm not going to be a gram weenie.

    Where you pitched your tent, it looks just like the landscape where I live! :) I live in the Swedish countryside, north of the capital Stockholm. I've lived there for over 30 years and despite the fact that about 10 dogs live along our little gravel road, I've never met another person walking their dog when I walk in the woods and the fields with my dog. But there are lots of wild animals, such as moose, snakes, birds, lynx, roe deer, red deer, wild boars and an occasional bear and wolf. Which kind of bear do you have in the Sods? And are there pumas and wolves, too?
